Mike was up this week…Good message bro!

  • We want to welcome those watching live in Romania.
  • Without action we cannot go where HE has called us to go.
  • What’s hairy, has four legs, and hides its legs in the winter? JESUS – The answer is always Jesus.
  • As a Christ follower we are called to respect our leadership. We are called to prayer for our leadership.
  • God’s people should be big-hearted and courteous.
  • Give yourself a check-up from the neck-up and see where your attitude is.
  • If you’re an algebra nut you’re going to love this message.
  • We are to be salt. Salt elevates your thirsty. It is what makes a person want what we got. It’s potent.
  • Salt is worthless when it is in the salt-shaker.
  • You can’t be in close proximity to God unless you are in the gutter.
  • We haven’t learned to clearly communicate because we haven’t learned to communicate with God.
  • Salty, lit-up, sitting on your duff – just coming here on Sunday mornings is simply not enough. Today is about action.
  • There is nothing else in your life that has more potential than going into the gutter. But are you willing to take a risk?

In true Tony Morgan fashion – I thought I would apply the same fun recap of the message for those of you that didn’t catch some of the stuff Pastor Bryson said today…

  • I’m here for a haircut.
  • I LOVE THIS CHURCH – You guys are unbelievable.
  • It’s so much fun to bless people and show them God’s kindness.
  • GracePoint WOMEN – you rock.
  • Men, don’t send your wife into the gutter unless you are ready to go with them.
  • The world looks at the church and says “these people are just about judging. We’re here to turn that mentality around.
  • We want to religious, holier than thou people to hate our guts…because those are the same people who hated Jesus.
  • David makes Bill Clinton look like an altar boy.
  • The Savior of all humanity – the only sinless person to walk this earth – had a murderer and prostitute n his genealogy. His genealogy ran through the red light district. his genealogy runs through the gutter.
  • We are called to love them and not judge them.
  • Jesus and compassion go hand in hand.
  • If you haven’t gone to the gutter then you haven’t fully gone to Christ.
  • I want my kids to experience the gutter.
  • Unconditional love changes lives.

Sunday debrief

One of the things I like about my position at GracePoint is the fact that I work with a team of individuals that help make the stuff on Sunday morning happen. Our goal is to make those “things” happen well. I like the Sundays where we are able to see the problems, fix them, and execute an experience where the average Steve (Joe is an over-used name) leaves thinking the service was flawless. I like to think of this process as proof to how God uses our gifts to make the church run.

Today was one of those days where we were able to identify problems and fix them – some sooner than others, but as I shut the door to my Explorer on my way home I thought to myself “Today was a great day”. So here are my highlights in no particular order.

  1. It was one of those Sundays where the music was “fun”. I even broke out of my shell a bit and danced on stage – just wait for the real moves one day. To get a complete set-list check out this virb site (thanks Ronnie for updating this).
  2. Owen came up on stage with me for the announcements. He did good. Maybe I will post a pic later on this week.
  3. Craig Groeshel from brought the message. He is by far one of the best communicators I have ever heard. Hilarious!
  4. Had an awesome lunch after church. Diakonos Brotherhood ministries provided it in honor of the dad’s. It was one of the best opportunities for community we have had at GracePoint in a while. I had the opportunity to meet and talk to people I only see in passing on the weekends. It was great.
  5. I realized how awesome it is to be a part of this church.

Maybe just a glimpse…

Something finally clicked with me today…The past few weeks at GracePoint have been about UNLEASH. UNLEASH has a few forms it has taken on. One of the most obvious is the building campaign that the church as a whole is kicking off. We need a building bad. UNLEASH, itself, kicked off with a reverse offering. We handed out about $10,000 to the congregation as a way to bless the city of Wichita and to UNLEASH kindness throughout the community. It has been awesome. UNLEASH in “big picture” form has been about REVOLUTION. And today some things finally clicked for me.

Bryson mentioned America’s founding fathers in his message today. I am so grateful for them because I am able to live in literally one of the greatest places on earth. It clicked – while many of us are not the founding members that helped launch GracePoint – we are part of the “founding fathers” that are actively writing the history for our church. People are going to look back on the sacrifice that is taking place now and become so grateful for radical faith we have to see a REVOLUTION of change happen.

While the basic theme to UNLEASH has been about sacrificially giving to the campaign, it has not been its driving force. Have you noticed each week there have been countless stories of people’s lives at GracePoint being radically changed or stories of how God is using our church to bless the lives of people in our community. These stories are shared not necessarily to cause emotion, but to show you the power of what it is like for a church that is sold-out to the vision of God. As Bryson says, “UNLEASH is not about bricks and sticks” and I truly believe that if God told us to stay portable forever we would be committed to doing that. What UNLEASH is about and what GracePoint is about is seeing God’s Kingdom come in our lives and in this city.

While the stories today were powerful and the ones on the site are awesome – it hasn’t been one particular story that God used to speak to me. It was, today, the culmination of all that God is doing that showed me what God’s Kingdom looks like. When you hear actual accounts of people’s lives being changed and their needs being met, you start to get a glimpse of what the kingdom of God is really about.

It’s not about money – although that helps. It is not necessarily about sacrifice – although that helps us get out of the way so God can use us. It’s about seeing lives changed. That’s what the Kingdom of God is…transformation.

Sunday/Weekend Recap

First off, let me just say – I LOVE PIZZA ROLLS. Every now and then my wife Rachel will buy these for me. This week there was a coupon and we got a small box for like 20 cents. Rachel and I have committed to each other to live in financial freedom. She is much stronger than I am – but we are seeing an amazing future in this. Because of our commitment, Rachel will really only buy stuff on sale or with a coupon (unless we have to have it) and this week it was Pizza Rolls….AMAZING (by the way we are training for a half-marathon too – this is REALLY HELPING!)

Anyways! This past weekend was pretty stinking awesome too. Saturday night, some of the leaders of GracePoint met together for a time of celebration and anticipation as we kicked off a revolution that this city has never seen before. About 150 of us gathered for a time of committing ourselves to leading the church in one of the most historical events we have seen. We heard of the life-change that is already taking place in our midst through this campaign, and spent some time in worship. What an awesome experience to hear us all sing “If we are the body” with just our voices.

Then on Sunday – we kicked off the historical event with releasing the “fly-through” virtual tour of our new facility. You can check it out here. (By the way – I think that is the “Voice of the Theater” or at least his brother) The church was pumped. Bryson preached an amazing message on UNLEASHING the Kindness in this city. I have heard many sermons dealing with giving but Bryson nailed it and challenged us all that we are not fund-raising, but FAITH-RAISING. Then he gave us a tangible lesson. Instead of taking an offering yesterday, we gave away $10,000 to the church. Some were given $5, $10, $20, $50, $100 and even $500. We were challenged to show God’s kindness to someone in this city. You can check out the stories on or by clicking here.

God is getting ready for something bigger than any of us have every hoped for or imagined. God is calling us to sacrifice. God is calling us to dream. God is moving us to be HIS hands, HIS feet, HIS voice to this city.

One Life to Give

We are getting ready to kick off an awesome series One Life to Give…you will not want to miss this Sunday – it is going to be one of the most unforgettable services in Gracepoint history…guaranteed…and you thought yesterday was awesome…

If you didn’t catch the service, here’s some of the things you missed…
• The house was packed – looks like we might have to open up some more space in the balcony soon – that means we will have space for you and your friends when you invite them this weekend…I promise it is going to be good.
• The band broke out the Secret Agent man and worship was awesome…Jesus Freak with rappers and hip-hop dancers – definitely amazing – we will see about putting up a link to the video soon.
Bryson let us in on the vision of the church and made it known that 2008 is going to be huge for Gracepoint…and for Wichita. Are you ready for God to UNLEASH his presence on this town?
• We got to meet the architects and take a peek at the new building. God put a very talented architect team in place and the team’s vision is right up Gracepoint’s alley.
• Rachel, myself, Brian Jackson and his wife were introduced to the church…we are all very excited to be a part of what is taking place here. Thanks for welcoming us!

Did I mention you will not want to miss Sunday’s service? Hope to see you there!
